At what point is it better to remove the remaining teeth and have dentures?

Keep as many healthy teeth and roots as you can - even a few teeth can help stabilise a denture. However, in some cases I do support removal of a 'healthy' tooth - e.g. if it is a single front tooth, it can be difficult to match a denture - a better smile can be acheived by removing the lone tooth. I would always consider keeping the root of the tooth to maintain your jawbone.

Really it is judgement on a case by case basis. Have a discussion with a dentist.
