I have a crown on one of my front...

I have a crown on one of my front lateral incisers. I've had it for about 10 years or more now and it's starting to look grey around the top edge where it meets the gum. Does this mean it needs replacing?

Not necessarily. Assuming the tooth has been checked by a dentist and it is healthy, then the problem is just aesthetic (greying of the root could mean the tooth needs root treatment, for example - get this ruled out).

Are you seeing the greyness when you smile, or when you lift your lip looking in the mirror? If you show it when you smile, when chatting to people etc, then replacement is probably a good idea. If your lip hides it, then think weather it's worth having expensive invasive treatment.

A replacement crown will have the edge closer to the gum and should hide the grey root effectively.

What is better - a dental implant or a crown and bridge?

An implant is a false tooth supported by a titanium screw into the jaw, like a root. A bridge is a false tooth supported by an adjacent tooth. The answer to the question depends on many factors including the health of the adjacent teeth, the amount of bone to screw into etc. Ask your dentist.
