As part of the procedure a spinal anaesthetic (similar to an epidural) can be very helpful in addition to the general anaesthetic. This is only effective for up to the first 24 hours or so after a hysterectomy.
Post-operatively regular paracetamol and voltarol for 24-48 hours is generally all our patients need. In addition , and a little suprisingly , peppermint tea/capsules can be helpful for the 'grippy' bowel pain patients often experience.
