Some areas of the bone scan come up in a different colour (Black dots in this case) . What could this mean? Besides that, there is a note that says, “metastatic foci has not been detected”. What does this mean? Thanks.
Black dots mean increased activity in the bone, although some areas of apparent increased activity can be normal (i.e. in the sacroiliac joints). Usually black dots are related to osteoarthritis (for example in the knees, wrists or shoulders). Rarely the black dots are due to metastatic disease, which means spread of a cancer into the bones. So the comment means that there is no spread of cancer identified in the bones.
