My daughter dislocated her knee...

My daughter dislocated her knee cap and has a lot of bone bruising. How long do you think it will take for her to recover?

It takes about six weeks with physiotherapy. The 'bruising' can be seen for longer on a MR scan even when symptoms have gone.

Unfortunately, patellar dislocation has a habit of recurring, so it is important to get good physiotherapy. If it happens a second time, a referral to a knee specialist is needed to check for reasons why it has happened and treat if necessary.
