On deciding to seek out a private gynaecology appointment I initially looked online to find a local female gynaecologist. However, as soon as I saw Mr Bhal's name I was very happy to arrange a consultation with him. Mr Bhal was involved in my NHS antenatal care when I was pregnant with my first child, and I had found him to be extremely collaborative, courteous and respectful. My experience of his private work was equally positive.

An excellent consultant, professional with a reassuring manner. Options and procedures were explained clearly. My operation was successful with the speed of recovery above expectations.

Mr Bhal has been my saviour! He's a very professional, empathetic and very knowledgeable man who has shown great empathy & understanding of my condition. I have recommended him to other ladies who have the same problem. I have never felt embarrassed with him and for me that is a God send!

I was treated as an individual, with excellent care, both before and after the operation. Mr Bhal and his team were amazing, going out of their way to ensure my operation went ahead, at a time when many were being cancelled due to heavy snow. I would have no hesitation in recommending Mr Bhal.

  • Question about Prolapse surgery

Please advise if there is an alternative for urethral vaginal tape for urinary stress incontinence. Also. I have read it can cause pain on ontercourse, and that sperm can effect its deterioration. Thank you. Kathy

I would generally recommend the following alternatives:
conservative management initially in the form of supervised pelvic floor muscle training, urethral plugs if appropriate, incostress devices and/or a drug called Duloxetine.
Lifestyle changes such as fluid intake each day and weight reduction if appropriate are also worthwhile options.
Should this be unsuccessful then further investigation such as urodynamics will need to be considered. Once the diagnosis is confirmed then surgical options other than Vaginal tape (TVT) include Colposuspension, Proximal Bladder neck sling or urethral bulking agents none of which use mesh.
There are some pros and cons in terms of the post op length of stay, incision size and recovery for these other options including the risk of failure, developing new symptoms and complications of surgery that you need to discuss with your surgeon.
The TVT can erode into the vagina due to various reasons that may cause pain rather than sperm affecting mesh.

  • Panorama program claims some women who had A Vaginal Mesh are now in severe agony even after years. Its 4years approx for me and I'm very concerned this could be my fate.

I would initially see your GP for an assessment and then if necessary get a referral to your local urogynaecologist as there was a lot that can be done to improve your symptoms including mesh removal as a last resort if necessary.
