Usage of Prepulsid

Indications: Symptoms and mucosal lesions associated with gastro- oesophageal reflux. Maintenance therapy of reflux oesophagitis. Non-ulcer dyspepsia. Symptomatic relief of delayed gastric emptying associated with diabetes, systemic sclerosis and autonomic neuropathy
Contra Indications: GI haemorrhage, obstruction or perforation. Personal or family history of QT prolongation, ventricular arrhythmia or torsades de pointes. Hypokalaemia, hypomagnesaemia, marked bradycardia. Pregnancy. Premature infants for up to 3 months after birth

Adverse and side effects

Abdominal cramps, borborygmi, diarrhoea. Headaches, extrapyramidal effects, convulsions, increased urinary frequency, hypersensitivity reactions. Rarely cardiac arrhythmia, liver function abnormalities, hyperprolactinaemia

Special precautions

Evaluate benefits versus risks and exclude QT prolongation with ECG and assessment of serum electrolytes in second or third degree AV block, sinus node dysfunction, congestive heart failure, ischaemic heart disease, family history of sudden death, electrolyte disturbances, COPD, respiratory or renal failure. Renal or hepatic impairment. Lactation. Elderly. Phenylketonuria with Prepulsid Quicklet (contains aspartame)
