Usage of Diltiazem

Indications: Hypertension
Contra Indications: Pregnancy and lactation. Sick sinus syndrome, 2nd or 3rd degree AV block, marked bradycardia, left ventricular failure

Adverse and side effects

Bradycardia, 1st degree AV block, dizziness, hypotension. Ankle oedema, nausea, headache, hot flushes, asthenia, malaise, altered liver function tests. Rarely, rash. Hepatitis and depression also reported

Special precautions

Mild bradycardia, prolonged PR interval, first degree AV block, heart failure or significantly impaired left ventricular function. Measure heart rate regularly in the elderly. Reduce dose in hepatic or renal impairment
