Would you recommend anything like...

Would you recommend anything like a mouthwash or an electric toothbrush to prevent gum disease? Or is that just a waste of money?

Just too add - you need to clean all around every tooth so floss/interdental brushes are also needed to clean in between the teeth where a toothbrush won't reach.

Yes. If you have teeth and gums you can get plaque (dirt). If this is not brushed off then you will get gingivitis.

Gingivitis is caused by plaque (dirt) around the gums causing inflammation. The most effective way to treat and prevent gingivitis is to brush properly.

Having said that, to answer your question: There are three main mouthwashes which can help with gum health:

1. Chlorhexidine based - like Corsodyl.
2. Essential oil based - like Listerine.
3. Peroxide based - like Colgate Peroxyl.

Most other general mouthwashes contain fluoride - which is for teeth - but do not help with gum health.
