Good day, I have been put on metoprolol...

Good day, I have been put on metoprolol 25 mg. to control occasional supraventricular arrhythmia. It seems to work but it gives me bad dreams which are more disturbing than the arrhythmia. Any alternatives to this drug without those pesky side effects. ?

It may be worth trying another cardio specific beta blocker such as Bisoprolol or Nebivolol. If the nightmares continue to be a problem then Verapamil is a choice that won't cause nightmares although not as great in controlling palpitations.
Simple measures such as avoiding stimulants such as Caffein and Alcohol also help reduce palpitations.
Good luck !

I agree with Mike. Just to give you some context, the heart normally beats around 100,000 times a day, so 206 abnormal beats out of 200,000 is not very many.

In addition to Dr. Ruzicka's answer, anticoagulant treatment does increase the risk of bleeding, including bleeding into the brain which is another cause of stroke. But this risk is much less than the risk of blood clots without anticoagulant so she should continue with it.

Unfortunately there is no zero-risk option with AF but she is now as well protected as possible.
