About us

The Lister Hospital enjoys one of Chelsea’s most prominent sites next to the world-
famous Chelsea Flower Show and overlooking the River Thames. Always a seat of medical
excellence, The Lister Hospital became known due to Lord Joseph Lister pioneering work in
developing modern-day antiseptics.
The Lister Hospital is part of the HCA group of award-winning London private hospitals.
These hospitals offer a level of expertise and a standard of clinical excellence that is
unsurpassed in the private sector - attracting leading consultants from many of London’s
top teaching hospitals making it the hospital of choice for both patients and healthcare
insurers.
In 2011 The Lister Hospital expanded with a £3 million Critical Care Unit (CCU), allowing
our doctors to treat more complex cases in Chelsea and offering our patients even greater
medical assurance.
In addition to the new CCU, The Lister Hospital has focused on additional service lines and
invested significantly, which is why it is now proud to have opened the ‘Chelsea Outpatient
Centre’ at 280 Kings Road offering a modern, contemporary private diagnostic and
treatment facility, the ‘Chelsea Consulting Rooms’, at 2 Lower Sloane Street offering our first
private GP centre and the ‘Chelsea Medical Centre’ at 272 Kings Road, providing a private
GP practice alongside a dedicated outpatient physiotherapy clinic. All of these sites offer the
very highest standards of care for our patients.
Whether you are local to Chelsea or are one of our many visiting patients from overseas,
when you walk through our doors we know you’ll be impressed by the quality of our
medical facilities and reassured by the warm welcome, expert care and competence of our
teams.
A gold standard for quality, The Lister Hospital is committed to practising at the leading
edge of medicine. Due to our comprehensive skills and knowledge base and extensive
resources we are now able to provide highly specialised services, delivering excellence
in; acute care, allergy, dermatology, ENT, gastroenterology, general medicine, general
surgery including abdominal wall reconstruction, orthopaedics, respiratory, rheumatology,
urology and women’s health, including IVF. Many of these services are recognised as
centres of excellence for the quality of care and outcomes achieved.
In addition to the above, The Lister Hospital offers around the clock consultant led care
through its Acute Care Unit, a 24/7 admissions service for GP’s and patients.
The Lister Hospital is CHKS accredited, the highest quality mark awarded to hospitals in the
private sector. This has been achieved by ensuring that we offer high standards of clinical
care and have the latest diagnostic and treatment facilities available to our physicians.
Throughout The Lister Hospital you will see evidence of investment in our facilities. We have
four operating theatres including two that are equipped with ultra-clean ventilation for
specialised orthopaedic surgery. State of the art diagnostics include digital mammography,
MRI, fluoroscopy, multi-slice CT scanning and ultrasound.
As part of our hospital-wide IT infrastructure, our new PACS system enables doctors and
other health professionals to instantly access and review patient scans and X-rays online,
improving the speed and efficiency of diagnosis.
This vision of achieving excellence is a team approach - shared by all our nursing, clinical
and support staff at The Lister Hospital – and is reflected in quality outcomes, which are
amongst the best in the private sector.

Ultimately I had 360 Spinal fusion surgery. After over a decade of pain & poor advice from other surgeons, a consultant that finally listened, cared & tried sensible conservative treatment first. I always knew that he would not give up, leave me in pain & I was not dealing with this alone, thank you.

  • Robert Sarkany

    Dermatologist, Dr.

    • U
Location: The Lister HospitalService: slow healing thumb paronychia

      Excellent:
This was my 4th visit to a dermatologist to try to ascertain why my paronychia (now chronic) might not be healing.. Almost 4 months had passed since the sudden onset of the paronychia, I had become increasingly pessimistic about the outcome longer term which could threaten my career.

      Could be improved:
Dr Sarkany's impressive knowledge of the facts of this painful and difficult to treat condition were immensely reassuring, and his vibrant personality and total empathy were a sea-change from some of my previous encounters. I believe in his analysis, and will follow his instructions to the letter!

    • U
      Location: St Thomas' Hospital

Dr. Sarkany and his team are very knowledgeable and considerate especially concerning my condition EPP, to the extent they have the lights turned off in the waiting area. They are very caring and listen to their patients. They understand the severity of the reaction caused by exposure to light.
