Mr Maclean treated me for a badly broken leg which I was told couldn't be saved. He was able to save it and I am eternally grateful for both his and his team's constant dedication and attention.

I received the very best of care before, during and after surgery during my stay in Glasgow Royal Infirmary under Mr Mclean.

I had two knee replacements from Mr Maclean and I was absolutely delighted with the results of the two operations. Mr Maclean has an excellent bed-side manner, his personality is attractive; his disposition frank, friendly and totally understanding. I warmly recommend him to all.

Underwent knee cartilidge operation and after 3 weeks I was back walking, running and cycling.

Royal Infirmary was ok for a large NHS establishment. I underwent a 'half knee replacement' and Angus McLean and his team were first class from pre-op through to release from hospital.

  • Question about Knee injuries

My knee keeps clicking and popping 1 year after surgery. Is this normal?

Depends what surgery was done and for what problem! A little more information required.

  • Question about Arthroscopic knee surgery

A year ago, my GP said I was a good candidate for a partial knee replacement, which was backed up by the Dr I saw when I went to the hospital. Yesterday, a year later, DR I saw at hospital recommended full replacement.
How do I know which one to go for?

Partial knee replacements are a good choice if the arthritis is localised to one area of your knee - usually the inner aspect of your knee. Patient satisfaction is generally higher (it feels more like a natural knee) but paradoxically failure (the need for revision surgery) is slightly higher than a full knee replacement. If possible i would prefer a partial knee to a full knee as it preserves more of your own undamaged tissues including ligaments and cartilage. I can tell the difference between my patients who have half versus full knee replacements - partials are usually happier!

Some knee surgeons do not offer partial knee replacements although most specialist knee surgeons do. Take advice from the most experienced knee surgeon. His or Her decision will be based on your symptoms, x rays and examination findings.

    Mr. Angus Maclean
