It takes only from 15-30 minutes and usually causes few complications and no change in sexual function.
The procedure to reverse a vasectomy is a much more complicated operation, thus vasectomy should be considered a permanent form of birth control. Sterility does not occur immediately after the procedure is finished and another method of contraception must be used until having two semen samples tested showing a zero sperm count.
